Performance Based Training

Overview

MassMEP utilizes the Time Wise® Suite of Lean Products for its Lean training programs.

Time Wise Solutions® is a performance-based training system that utilizes a "Learning by Doing" process and provides for the rapid infusion of best practices into any enterprise. Accepted from the boardroom to the shop floor, Time Wise integrates the training program in a unified and consistent manner. This creates a rapid enterprise-wide understanding of when value is being added and has a direct impact on the bottom line that far exceeds the usual pace of awareness training.

The Time Wise® Suite of Lean Products qualifies for inclusion in the 80 hours of Training, Education and Development towards the Society of Manufacturing Engineers' (SME) Bronze, Silver and Gold Levels of Lean Certification. Trainees with minimal prior Lean work experience that successfully complete Time Wise Training have the option of applying to the Society of Manufacturing Engineers for certification at the Bronze Level. Lean Practitioners with a dossier establishing prior Lean work experience are eligible to take the Silver or Gold exams upon submitting an application to SME.

LE101: Time Wise® Principles of Lean Manufacturing
LE101 is an accelerated learning workshop that conveys the benefits of using Lean in a make-to-stock production environment to achieve breakthrough business performance. Key deliverables include:

•  Understand the business case for continual improvement as a way to profitably meet rising customer expectations in a volatile and globally competitive market; and
•  Understand how Lean methods simultaneously reduce total lead time and operational costs while improving service and quality.

LE102: Time Wise® Principles of Lean Manufacturing for Job Shops
LE102 is an accelerated learning workshop that conveys the benefits of using Lean in an engineer-to-order production environment to achieve breakthrough business performance. Key deliverables include:

•  Understand the business case for continual improvement as a way to profitably meet rising customer expectations in a volatile and globally competitive market; and
•  Understand how Lean methods simultaneously reduce total lead time and operational costs while improving service and quality.

LE103: Time Wise® Principles of Lean for Shipbuilding and Aerospace
LE103 is an accelerated learning workshop with a specific industry focus that conveys the benefits of using Lean in the shipbuilding (LE103s) and aerospace (LE103a) industries to achieve breakthrough business performance. Key deliverables include:

•  Understand the business case for continual improvement as a way to profitably meet rising customer expectations; and
•  Understand how Lean methods simultaneously reduce total lead time and operational costs while improving service and quality.

LE104: Time Wise® Principles of Lean Supply Chain Management
LE104 is an accelerated learning workshop that conveys the benefits of using Lean Supply Chain methods to achieve breakthrough business performance. Key deliverables include:

•  Understand the business case for collaborative supply chain improvement as a powerful driver of productivity, profitability and growth for all trading partners; and
•  Understand how to practically apply Lean supply chain methods to substantially reduce total lead time and costs while simultaneously increasing the flexibility of the extended value stream.

LE105: Time Wise® Principles of Lean Six Sigma
LE105 is an accelerated learning workshop that conveys the benefits of using Lean in conjunction with Six Sigma to achieve breakthrough business performance. A model of Lean Six Sigma is presented which greatly simplifies how Lean and Six Sigma methodologies work together. Key deliverables include:

•  Understand why the Lean Six Sigma system is more effective than either stand-alone methodology;
•  Understand where the synergy exists between Lean and Six Sigma; and
•  Understand how to coordinate Lean and Six Sigma initiatives to achieve the best results.

LE106: Time Wise® Team Involvement Problem Solving (TIPS)
LE106 is an accelerated skill-building workshop that trains participants how to effectively use a structured, team-based approach to eliminate the root cause of costly performance problems.

LE107: Time Wise® Principles of Lean Manufacturing for Process Industries
LE107 is an accelerated learning workshop that conveys the benefits of using Lean in a semi-continuous batch process manufacturing environment to achieve breakthrough business performance.

Specifically, the focus is on the application of Lean methods in the chemical, food, pharmaceutical, printing, and packaging industries. Key deliverables include:

•  Understand the business case for continual improvement as a way to profitably meet rising customer expectations in a volatile and globally competitive market; and
•  Understand how Lean methods simultaneously reduce total lead time and operational costs while improving service and quality.

LE201: Time Wise® Value Stream Mapping Event
LE201 is a Lean implementation event that involves creating a Value Stream Map (VSM) delineating the critical material and information flows within your value creating process.

The ultimate purpose of VSM is to identify high impact improvement opportunities that will drive breakthrough business performance. Material pathways include the movement of incoming raw materials through manufacturing operations to the shipping of finished goods. Information pathways include customer communications, transactions with your organization and supplier communications.

LE202: Time Wise® Kaizen Rapid Improvement Event
LE202 is a Lean implementation event that involves a series of activities which follow a structured ten-step process enabling a team to achieve rapid, action-oriented improvements identified during the Value Stream Mapping Event (LE201).

Specifically, the Kaizen event addresses individual problem areas identified by Process Mapping, using industry standard Plan-Do-Check-Act problem-solving model.

Reduction of production lead time, inventory and cost can be achieved quickly.

Time Wise® LeanPro Manufacturing Distance Learning
A successful long-term Lean implementation program requires senior management to empower their workforce with a Lean education. Distance learning provides the foundation needed for the implementation of Lean training and continuous improvement activities. Distance learning is an effective and economical way to educate everyone at all levels in the organization.

Time Wise® LeanPro Office Distance Learning
An enterprise has a greater potential to launch successful Lean projects when all employees have access to a Lean education. Distance learning courses provide an effective and economical way to educate everyone at all levels in the organization in the principles of Lean and help them become “Lean thinkers."

This hands-on simulation is designed to introduce the participants to lean concepts, allow them to experience changes to a process, and motivate them to desire improvements in their pre-production processes. Office processes are composed of individual tasks. Processes are generally developed over years of time and normally contain steps that are no longer required. A lean office is an environment where each of these processes has been evaluated and streamlined for maximum efficiency. Lean is not just for the shop floor anymore.

Another goal of Lean Office is to eliminate wasted movement by locating the personnel necessary to perform the task together.


Training Within Industry (TWI)

The “Missing Link” in Your Lean Training Journey: How to achieve standard work, sustain the gains made by Lean, increase productivity, improve morale, and reduce training time.

TWI consists of three standardized programs that teach the essential skills needed by all supervisors and team leaders to create the culture to lead an organization through a Lean Transformation and the skills necessary to sustain the impacts of a Lean Transformation. These TWI “J” programs are Job Instruction Training (JI), Job Methods Training (JM), and Job Relations Training (JR).

Time Wise Mobile Outreach Skills Training® (M.O.S.T.)

AVAILABLE SEPTEMBER 1, 2009

DO YOU NEED SKILLED EMPLOYEES? The Time Wise Mobile Outreach Skills Training® (M.O.S.T.) program trains people with little or no prior manufacturing experience, in the basics of manufacturing operations in a fraction of the time of traditional programs.

Time Wise M.O.S.T.® is designed to address the critical need for qualified manufacturing employees including CNC machine operators. The training can be applied to new hires, as well as incumbent employees to advance their existing skills.

•  Time Wise M.O.S.T.®, one of the most successful job training/creation programs
•  Originally funded by U.S. Department of Labor (USDOL), Education and Training Administration (ETA) High Growth Initiative
•  In partnership with Workforce Investment Boards/One-Stop Career Centers and faith and community based organizations served Disadvantaged Populations including dislocated workers, Limited English Proficiency (LEP), TANF, older youth, and ex-offenders
•  Nearly 100% of trainees who successfully completed the two-week M.O.S.T.® Phase I training received one or more job offers
•  Based on a unique 3-phase fast track training process, in English and Spanish
•  Using a state-of-the-art Mobile Training Unit (MTU) - located at the employer’s facility or at a convenient location for trainees
•  The Time Wise M.O.S.T. ® program record of success:

- 90% training completion rate
- 95% received job offers
- 80% three quarter retention rate (270 days post placement)

•  Hourly wage range $9 to $22 (annual salary range from $20,800 to $45,760) with an average hourly wage of $15 (annual salary of $31,200) with health benefits
•  Time Wise M.O.S.T.® provides an opportunity to lift trainees and their families out of poverty, provide health insurance for the first time, and position them for career ladders that allow long-term growth and higher earning potential
•  Job offers come from the annual 121,000 openings projected for entry level advanced manufacturing occupations with mean hourly wages ranging from $10.52 to $16.97
•  Time Wise M.O.S.T.® easily expanded and rapidly deployed to meet the national scope for job training and placement and urgency for economic stimulus
